Doing a bit a research about chest protectors and rib vests for the 12 yr old and under drivers.
Latest copy of the rule book says SFI 20.2 All the models I have found Armadillo, Ribtect etc. are 20.1
My son has a Sparco model in ultra small which fits great. it is also rated 20.1 However not nearly as robust as the Armadillo (looks like Robocop) I seen Mitch Mark wearing the other day. I like that one. But I also seen an Armadillo separate Chest plate / cover that I guess goes over the rib vest.
looking for exeriences and product reviews from the local junior dads.

Both my boys (now 7 & 12) have always run the Armadillo vests and I wouldn't run anything else. All the different makes seem to be built pretty well but some only come with a front plate whereas the Armadillo has padding all the way around, including the shoulders. Their customer service is outstanding, too. Give them a call and ask them about the SFI requirements you found; if its like the helmets the 20.1 ratings may be allowed for a specific amount of time similar to Snell ratings.

My son's Sparco is a jacket type and he likes it. So it might be best for me to get the Armadillo chest plate. Guess I need to measure him and then give the guys at Armadillo a call.
I seen Ribtects in the garage at NOLA last visit. Didn't have my sone with me to test fit.
I guess my issue is NOLA rules require 20.02 and I have not found ANY equipment that meets the standard. But have found several other tracks and sanctioning bodies requiring 20.02.

We will allow 20.1 and 20.2 I will update the rule book, I have had customers use all three brands Ribtect, Sparco and Armadillo all serve the purpose very well. IMO the Armadillo is very bulky but once broken-in is a great product. I like the Ribtect because it can be used for a longer period of time without buying a new one, Nola has both sizes in stock SM1-2 Ribtect $129.00..

Thanks Garrett. Must remind myself to try and get my boy over for a test fit.

+1 on the Ribtect. Make sure you wear it UNDER the suit. I see many wearing the chest protector outside of the suit which is not safe.
