Hey Mitch,

I cant wait to see the track.

I wanted to ask if you have considered setting aside some time at the kart track to allow for motards? There is a small track in Lafayette and it is getting action, and I would love to see something available to us locally in New Orleans.

Thanks in advance
Henrik Larsen

Once the kart track is open it will be available for both kart and Motard test and tune.

Mitch,

Could you please elaborate more on this with the kart track opening right around the corner..

FAQ's:
1. Days the kart track will be available to motards.?
2. Fee's ? , membership required? and times of open track.?
3. Bike and rider requirements.?
4. Strictly limited to motards or will low speed smaller motorcycles be permitted, such as nsr, ysr ,ninja 250, cbr250, etc...??
5. Also, how with the overall operation kart/motard of a trackday be conducted??

Thanks again for your conveying of information and support. -Orey

1. The Racing portion of the Kart track will be open for Karts and Bikes every day with the exception of race days or a corporate event. Once operational Garett will have a section of our web calendar with the kart track schedule.
2. $50.00 for the day Karts and Bikes will run in sessions if/when we have both running on the same day. No you do not need to be a member. I will refer to Garett but I am guessing it will be 9:00am-dusk
3. You bring up something that got moved down the to do list and will ask Garett to put together bike prep and rider gear requirements.
4. No the track will be available to NSR, YSR, and the 250 sportbikes. Like all track activity when we get a large group of bikes and riders of differing performance we will split groups into sessions for rider enjoyment and safety.
5. As stated karts and bikes will share the track in sessions, with enough interest from the Motard and small sportbike community we will consider motorcycle only days if the numbers warrant it along with a racing program.

will dirt bikes in supermoto trim be allowed

Mitch Wright

We will be scheduling Advanced Rider Training (ART) which will be for rider that want to improve street skills, new to the track and experienced riders wanting a refresher in a lower speed environment before running the big track. Supermoto riders are welcome to ride on most days in sessions with karts, with enough Supermoto interest we will consider a race program.

Mitch who are you're instructors for this?

Mitch Wright

Not that far down the road yet, I have discussed bringing in one or 2 instructors we used at Miller for this program to lead the program and train the trainers. I will refer to Ron Rink and the pool of folks he is putting together for our core group of local instructors.

Ahh I see. And If I'm reading correctly you are saying that the Karts would have a group and the Small bikes and motards running in an alternating group correct?

Mitch Wright

That is correct.

What is considered ''too big'' of a sportbike for the kart track? For instance, my cousin has a cbr f4.. Its a older carbed bike with a weak 600cc engine (under 100hp),, and the bike is about the same size or smaller than my supermoto (talking seat height and overall measurements).. Would something like this qualify to participate on the kart track?

Gearing and light weight I would think would be the key running a bike on the kart track. The kart track is .7 of a mile with relatively short straights and tight corners.

So, If a bike is relatively slow in nature and can be handled well at lower speeds.. It can have a go at the kart track? I understand that it would not be wise to bring a zx10 or a gsxr1000... Ive seen guys ride ''smaller'' full size bikes on very tight courses.. Like a cbr600rr and sv650...

Hey Mitch, just reading some threads and this conversation got my gears turning so to speak. Would what Orey suggested be acceptable, i.e. smaller sportbikes but bigger than the ninja 250? I have an sv650, and after seeing how well the ninja 250 worked out there, I'd be dying to try the sv. It weighs no more than the 250, and it has no more power than the bigger Aprilla and KTM supermotos (but slower cause of the weight difference). I can't see it being any worse an idea than either of those examples.

Just curious, cause if it'd be permitted, I might go poor doing kart TNT's on it ;)

Brought the sv650 out to the kart track. Didn't like it too much. Maybe it's just my bike setup, which I admit isn't optimal as far as sv's go. Whole track was second gear with a squirt of third on the front straight. I still think the ninja 250 is perfect for this place. I was substantially faster on it, and it took much less effort.

We vowed to come home to moore park for our next ride. Miss you guys and that place. But yeah, the NOLA track is pretty amazing. So many turns! If Ricky brings his or we're out there at the same time, you really ought to try the 250. It's a blast.

I need to get Travis back on two wheels too. He's been busy with the shop and his boy and just hasn't had the time or money to come out, but he needs it, I can hear it in his voice. Plus he's got two or three of Kevin's race ready 250's....

i told jamie last time yall were there that i thought the 250ninjas would be perfect for the nola track. i believe my 150honda would be a good time out there also i believe it has about 10 miles per hour more top end than youre 100 so should be about right. gonna find out for sure

Well, when they ran the big layout last month, like this:

http://farm7.static.flickr.com/6221/6351412283_26c807247d_o.jpg

I was topped out in 5th about half way of the big back straight. I'm pretty sure the rest of the course was done in 4th. I was gonna drop a few teeth or ten in the rear and try it out. Even if I can't use all of 5th, I got 3 or 4 more for the rest of the track. Smaller layouts won't be as bad either. The Nov. 20th was the longest yet.

This past weekend was the same thing, but counter clockwise, with a long sweeping left right left breaking up the back straight:

That section was just heaven on the 250. Big arc to the left out of the chicane wringing out second gear, quick flick to third, left knee on the deck continuing the arc, flip to the other knee for the arc right, flop back to the left knee again for the exit, then trail into the back corner double left. That's what I paid fifty bucks for. Like heroin.

yep youre and addict. i may try to pick up another 250supermotard or even a 150r supermotard would be awesome out there. yes i figured the sv650 would be a little bit overkill for the the track. im thinking bettween mooreparktrack and nola next year we are in supermotard and gokart heaven cant wait and im gonna ride all winter like we did last winter
