My son lives in N.O. and asked me to look at a kart near where I live. Does anyone have any advice they can post, QUICK, about what to look and look out for? Things I have figured out on my own include:

Hours on engine? What is about the highest I should look for? What is excessive?

Should I measure the frame cross-wise, to make sure it is not bent? Or, something else?

Does frame tube type matter? I am a life-long cyclist, and the only steel tubing that is considered acceptable is Chrome-Moly ("CRO-MO") seamless tubing. Some brands- Reynolds 531, Tange, for instance, had real cache'. Hi-tensile tubing is seriously looked down on, and if the tubing is seamed, it's considered junk. What about karts?

I saw a post that mentioned AMB transponders- is this necessary for racing there? If the kart does not have one, how much do they cost?

I also have some general questions:

Will motorcycle riding gear satisfy the rules? I have a spare 2-piece Fieldsheer brand MC suit, ballistic nylon, CD-rated armor at back, shoulders, elbows, knees, and I think hips. Jacket and pants zip together, but only across back. I also have a Joe Rocket mesh suit, similar specs otherwise. I have been down on a MC in the same kind of JR mesh suit, with reasonable protection. Will either or both likely pass tech? Will GP-type MC gloves do? Mil-spec combat boots?
